James Cluer owns Fine Vintage LTD. The company operates a wine school and acts as a consultant to the wine industry.
James is poised to become a Master of Wine, having already successfully completed the tasting and theory exams. The MW is considered to be the highest qualification in wine with only 20 MW's in North America and 257 worldwide.
His background includes six years experience working in Bordeaux as Export Director for the prestigious house of D.Milhade et Fils. Following that, James moved to Vancouver and was hired by Mission Hill Family Estate to develop exports worldwide.
During his 15 year career in the wine trade, James has also worked with high profile winemakers and has made wine in Bordeaux, Australia and Napa Valley. He has taught many people about wine, both privately through his wine school and through UBC Continuing Studies and UBC Sauder School of Business.
In wine education, James currently operates four wine schools in British Columbia; he instructs at the University of British Columbia MBA Faculty on The Business of Wine, and instructs the Art Of Wine tasting Course for UBC Continuing Studies.
As a wine consultant, James has written Wine Spectator award-winning wine lists for 5 star hotels and resorts. He also consults to wineries in the Okanagan valley and Napa Valley as well as to an airline on wine purchasing. Lastly, James holds the contract with the government Liquor Distribution Branch to train 3,500 staff.
