Consider Your Program

LFS offers six Research-Based Programs for graduate students. Each program deepens your understanding of critical global issues and supports your pursuit of pioneering new solutions to major challenges. LFS also offers four Course-based Master’s Programs. These intensive, vocation-forward programs prepare students for dynamic careers in several real-world fields.

Research Supervisors

LFS researchers are deeply involved in tackling essential issues. Through in-class work, intensive lab learning and experiential work in the field or overseas, you will be supervised by faculty members who are recognized as pioneering experts. Awards & Scholarships

A wide range of financial support is available to LFS graduate students, and this includes multiple funding options. Newly admitted graduate students in research-based MSc and PhD programs are guaranteed funding packages of $16,000/year for two years (MSc) and $24,000 for each of the first four years for PhD students, provided they maintain good academic standing.

Applied Animal Biology (MSc, PhD)

Deepening your understanding of animal welfare, behavior and physiology as well as livestock management, aquaculture and wildlife.

Food Science (MSc, PhD)

Understanding major food sector issues and addressing vital topics including food safety, risk assessment, product development and more.

Human Nutrition (MSc, PhD)

Tackling major issues in diet and disease, nutrient metabolism, nutrition behaviours and nutrition through the life cycle.

Integrated Studies in Land & Food Systems (MSc, PhD)

Developing solutions in key areas of global food security, from production, processing and disposal to economic, social and environmental processes.

Plant Science (MSc, PhD)

Interrogating key issues and designing innovative programs to address fundamental global biological challenges.

Soil Science (MSc, PhD)

Joining forces with the Faculty of Forestry to dive into everything from soil physics and microbial ecology to conservation management and land use issues.

Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS)

Addressing emerging issues in food security, resource conservation, climate change adaptation and more with a skills-based vocational approach.

Master of Food Science (MFS)

Understanding major food sector issues and addressing vital topics including food safety, risk assessment, product development and more.

Master of Food & Resource Economics (MFRE)

Tackling the fast-moving demographic, environmental and technological challenges that directly affect food systems and natural resources.

Master of Nutrition & Dietetics (MND)

A direct track to becoming a Registered Dietitian in British Columbia, complete with in-depth courses and practicum placements.
