What excites you about science?
Environmental economics really caught my attention because it provides us with data-driven insights that shape better decisions. I’m especially interested in how policies like carbon pricing and cap-and-trade internalize externalities, ensuring businesses and individuals account for environmental costs. Science excites me because it not only explains these economic mechanisms but also equips us to address global challenges like climate change, food security, and economic inequality through innovative, evidence-based solutions.
When did you realize science was for you?
I realized science was for me in high school when I discovered that economics extends beyond money—it shapes how consumers, businesses, and governments interact and manage resources. I was curious by its ability to explain decision-making, business operations, and public policy, highlighting the interconnectedness of economic players. As I explored further, I saw how scientific methods, data analysis, and logical reasoning make economics a powerful tool for solving real-world challenges. In particular, I became interested in applying economic principles to environmental issues like resource scarcity and sustainability. This led me to pursue Food and Resource Economics, where I aim to understand how economic forces drive resource management and contribute to building more sustainable, resilient communities.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to own a food business that is innovative and unique, such as specializing in cultural fusion flavors. I’ve always enjoyed trying different cuisines, and I believe that food is a creative way to connect cultures. My goal is to not only offer delicious products, but also to celebrate cultural diversity through food.
