Lindsay Cuff wins UBC award for leadership in open education

March 7, 2025 – Lindsay Cuff, Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Faculties of Forestry and Land and Food Systems, received an Open Educational Resource (OER) Excellence and Impact Award. This honour celebrates faculty members at UBC who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to advancing open educational practices, breaking down economic barriers, and enhancing accessibility within credit courses.
A strong advocate for openness and collaboration, Cuff’s work exemplifies a fundamental teaching philosophy: “Teaching is so much better, and so much more student-centric, when we collaborate and when we have an openness to the sharing of our strategies and materials.” Her leadership and innovation embody the true spirit of open education, inspiring both peers and learners alike.
Her open education textbook, Writing Place: A Scholarly Writing Textbook, showed a commitment to decolonization and incorporating Indigenous perspectives while using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. The textbook is interactive, accessible, and demonstrates a clear commitment to student-centered learning.
Cuff shows leadership in the open education community, as well as the inclusion of student contributions. We celebrate Cuff’s achievements and her tireless efforts to expand equitable access to knowledge through OER.
